1. When did you start racing and why?

1992 I was invited on an OSU club team ride. The Team captain said “you’ve got big legs, you should join the team.” So I did. They have gotten smaller over the years.

2. What makes you love cycling so much?

It has allowed me to meet some great people and enjoy amazing adventures with them.

3. What different cycling disciplines do you participate?  Race or recreation?

I enjoy Criteriums, Cyclocross, and some MTB. Additionally I like to do an experiential ride each year with friends as a way to keep things fresh and interesting.

4. What do you take in your jersey on long rides?

Money, spare tube, actual pump, and phone.

5. What piece of your cycling gear (clothing, wheels, anything) is your favorite?

I always carry my custom, leather, hand made jersey pouch to carry the necessities. It’s the same one Shawn talked about.

6. Which pro cyclist will you cheer for in the pro peloton?

I really like Julian Alaphilippe, he rides with heart and is willing to attack to make the races interesting. I think he understands that he is also an entertainer, not just a cyclist.

7. Which pro cyclist do you think your style is most like?

Gustav Ditters “This is what happens when you train super hard on the bicycle”

8. What do you eat after a long ride or race?

Ice cream is my go too… It is one of the reasons I ride…to burn the ice cream calories.

9. What is your favorite race memory, what race was it and why do you remember it?

I will give 1 race and 1 other.. for race I will say was Hyde Park. We worked the field the entire race and put 2 of our guys on the podium. It was the most work I have ever done in a race but very satisfying in the end. The other is from the yearly experiential ride…it would be Hoatzin Root 2018… Four of us were riding $50 bikes and probably 130 miles into or second day of 150 mile rides leaving strait out of Manhattan. It was pitch black somewhere in New Hampshire and as we crested a tough climb the sky opened up to expose the most stars I can recall ever seeing in my life. It really was a magical experience.

10. What advice do you give to your team member or a new team member?

Don’t forget why you started riding bicycles in the first place.

11. What are your 2020 goals?

To finally recover from a long term injury and get back to enjoying riding and racing with a great group of people.

12. When you aren’t pedaling your bike what do you like to do?

I enjoy spending time with my family, riding motorcycles, and sewing various things.
